We are delighted to announce that the second recipient of our Giving Back program is Lennon Recovery House. Their giving back period runs from April 1st 2020 through to June 30th 2020.

I first met Dianne Young in May 2019 when we both took part in a charity event for ovarian cancer. Despite her small stature and quiet demeanor there is a driven determination in her personality and she was someone I knew I had to get to know better.

After losing her son Lennon who took his own life after struggling with addiction and mental health issues, Dianne decided to open a recovery home after her own family experience found the lack of available resources was at crisis level. The positive outcome of such a tragic time in her life and the life of her family, was her drive to become part of the solution, and part of that solution became Lennon Recovery House.

Located in idyllic Rustico on the Islands North Shore, this former convent has had a welcome overhaul. I had the pleasure of receiving the guided tour of Lennon House and Dianne, along with a team of volunteers and local islanders have created an idyllic space with a true sense of tranquility and home.

Lennon Recovery House serves as a stepping stone for those recovering and working hard to rebuild their lives, make new, healthy connections, re-enter the workforce or continue their education and make a positive transition back into their communities.

The most incredible feeling you get when you visit is the reminder that this recovery center has been created because of one family’s struggle to find better resources and the determination to make the lives of others in need better in the midst of their own loss.

The majority of funds raised and work done has been by the hands of islanders. Lennon Recovery House not only serves those in need, it serves as beacon of hope and testimony to the wonderful hearts of those in our Island communities.

After months and months of hard work, the Grand Opening, scheduled for March 27th 2020 has had to be rescheduled due to the current Covid-19 pandemic. Despite this, the center is ready to care for those people in need and news of the rescheduled Grand Opening date will be available on their website and social media platforms including Facebook

There is still much to be done with plans for the third floor to be renovated to accommodate more people who need support. If you are looking to make a contribution to an island charity and be a part of something truly wonderful, I would encourage you to check out the Lennon House website at www.lennonhouse.ca and follow them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/lennonrecoveryhouse

Lennon House will receive a portion of every transaction that closes through our office between 1st April 2020 and 30th June 2020.

We are currently looking for our 3rd recipient so if you know of an island charity doing great work supporting those in our local communities please contact Melanie Press at hello@impresspei.com
